• The unregistered version.
The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 unregistered version is fully working, but always shows its about box, when you open it.
When you register The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 the "irritating" about box don't more appears and any "unregistered" notice will be replaced by the registration infos.
Be careful: if you've an e-mail address you will receive the serial number as soon.
The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 can also be included, without my previous permission, without changes and with this "Read Me", in all CD-ROM or disk shareware collections and in all CD-ROM or Disk magazines (anyway an e-mail or a notice will be welcome, as well as a copy of the magazine or media :-).
The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 may not be included in a commercial package without my permission.
• Where's the 1.x.x version?
The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 is based on my old application Filelock 1.3.2, also includes and improves the features of another (very old) application of mine: Fileshow 1.0.0. To simplify: Fileshow stops existing, Filelock becomes The MacLocksmith. Filelock users must now refer to The MacLocksmith. I can still accept registrations for Filelock 1.3.2 and update them to The MacLocksmith 2.x.x (price and serial number are the same) but a Fileshow registration remains only for Fileshow.
I've changed the Filelock name since another programmer have named an application Filelock. I've made the change unilaterally, to avoid "turbolence" and confusion. This is all.
• How to use.
wThe MacLocksmith 2.0.0 package contains two version of the application:
√...The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 (68K) for 68K Macs or, in emulation, for Power Macs.
√...The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 (PPC) for Power Macs.
The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 is an useful application to save your files from indiscreet eyes. It protects your files quickly by using a strong encryption method and a password. Also it locks/unlocks disks by software flag .
By using Special Keys you can activate some its extra ability: you can set/unset lock bit of files, lock/unlock names and, finally, show/hide files, folders and (with some precautions) disks.
The MacLocksmith works very fast and can scan your folders/disks looking for files to treat. It's Macintosh Drag and Drop aware and requires at least System 7 to run.
You can open disks, folders, files by Drag&Drop onto The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 desktop icon, by selecting them through File menu or by dragging theirs icons on The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 "Drag Window" (shown below).
When you drag a non-encrypted file onto its desktop icon, The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 asks you a password through the dialog below:
You should type the same password into the two edit fields then The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 encrypt the file. The encrypted file change its icon as shown below:
If you double-click or drag an encrypted file, The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 asks you the password, before decrypt it.
The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 can lock, by software flag any kind of disk.
When you drag a disk The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 shows the alert below:
By pressing the "Toggle" button The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 locks the unocked disks or unlocks the locked ones.
• Special Keys:
If you hold down one or more special keys The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 disables encryption/decryption features then performs the actions linked to the keys. Encryption/decryption disabling occurs only for security and to avoid user's perplexity.
These are the Special Keys:
Option key: sets the lock bit of files.
also locks disks by software flag.
Command key: unsets the lock bit of files, also unlocks disks by software flag.
Control key: locks files/folders names.
Shift key: unlocks files/folders names. Note: setting lock bit of a file also locks the file name so, if you unlock the file name of a locked file, you can't change its name until you unset its lock bit.
Space: hides files and folders.
S: shows hidden files/folders.
Caps Lock: treats disks as folders. WARNING!!!! this means that you can also lock name and hide disks. You may retrieve an hidden file/folder by using the "Open" menu item, but you can never see an hidden disk! You can't find utilities able to retrieve hidden disks!! So make sure to create an alias of disk before hide it, through the alias you will always able to show the disk!!!!!!!
While The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 is working, a window notifies the kind of current action, the type and the name of files examined, the number of actions achieved.

Note: while The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 is the foreground application, you can press escape or command-period to exit during its performance (note that escape key tracking is more fast than command-period tracking). Instead if The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 is the background application you can use only escape key to stop its job.
When The MacLocksmith 2.0.0 completes its job and if it's in background, then attempts to call back your attention, to show its statistics, by a simple notification procedure. If you do nothing or are working with another application, after a brief waiting time (about 30 seconds), it close its info window.
• Menus:
You can perform any action of above by using the "Open" menuitem inside the File Menu.
Use Special Keys, while you select a file, to perform the additional actions of above.
Note: the usage of "S" and space as Special Keys can be problematic when the Get File dialog is open, so follow these steps: 1)select a file 2)press the mouse onto "choosing" button 3) hold down the Drop Key 4)release the mouse.
